Introducing

DIY Herbal Holistic Health

Your step-by-step course to learn the Healing Properties of Chinese Herbs, Tailor Nourishing Recipes to Your Needs, and Personalize Your Wellness

In this beginner Chinese herbs course, you’ll transition from feeling lost and confused to feeling at ease, confident, and safe in applying simple Traditional Chinese Medicine theories to use food as medicine and integrate common Chinese herbs in your everyday life for holistic health. To top it off, you’ll also infuse a splash of deliciousness, healthfulness, and nourishment into your everyday meals

Before I tell you all about this course,
let's talk about who this is really for ...

You’ve always had a profound interest in natural medicine, particularly Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). You’re well aware of the power of prevention over cure. You firmly believe in nurturing health naturally and understand that it requires intention, patience, and ongoing effort. At the core of your beliefs lies the understanding that each person is unique, including yourself, and there is no one-size-fits-all magic pill or herb for all ailments.

This foundational belief in Traditional Chinese Medicine resonates deeply with the course’s principles. TCM thrives on the power of ongoing efforts and recognizes the importance of tailoring health-nurturing journeys to each individual. In the course, we will delve deeper into these concepts, and I hope that our shared perspective will enrich your learning journey with a sense of joy, enlightenment, and curiosity!

DIY Herbal Holistic Health is
the perfect fit for you if:

You don’t have time to learn it yourself

You’re short on time and overwhelmed by scattered, incomplete, or misleading information when it comes to the basics of Chinese Medicine and Chinese herbs available online.

You’ve tried to learn on your own but let’s face it, who has the time to figure everything out by themselves? You’ve been yearning for someone knowledgeable to guide you through the process, allowing you to learn more efficiently and systematically.

You didn’t get to learn it from your (grand)parents

You grew up enjoying the nourishing benefits of herbal soups and teas, but the knowledge wasn’t passed down to you by your (grand)parents. Perhaps there’s a generational gap, a language barrier, or they simply weren’t available to teach you.

Now, as you’ve grown older, you desire to reconnect with this rich food culture and experience the healing effects of Chinese herbal soups/teas. It’s frustrating to feel the tradition is within reach yet somehow out of grasp.

You’re seeking a Holistic Approach to Food and Wellbeing

While you appreciate Western medicine and nutrition, you long for an additional approach that aligns with your beliefs and needs. Perhaps you’ve explored various diets and methods without finding the right fit, and now you’re intrigued by the Chinese Medicine perspective on the connection between food and health. It resonates deeply with you, offering a fresh perspective.

You desire to feel empowered in nurturing your everyday well-being through the power of food as medicine. However, the intricacies of how Chinese medicine views health, food, and medicine is very different from the West. Terms like thermal properties (cooling versus warming), Qi tonic, Yin tonic, and focusing on qualities rather than just protein, carbs, or vitamins can be unfamiliar. You yearn for someone to guide you systematically!

You feel lost in translation

You’re eager to incorporate Chinese herbs into your home cooking and tea brewing rituals, experimenting with new flavors and textures. However, navigating unfamiliar ingredients with Chinese names, jargon, and cultural references used in Chinese Medicine leaves you feeling confused and lost.

You’re searching for easy-to-make recipes that support your overall wellness, but you fear that you can’t effectively communicate with your local Asian grocers to find the right ingredients or determine if what you find on the internet is the right ingredient!

The lack of an Asian cultural background and language proficiency may sometimes feel like an insurmountable obstacle.

"If the above resonates with you,
then you've come to the right place!

This  beginner course is specifically designed to give you the essential knowledge, tools, inspiration, and unwavering support every step of the way.

Whether you’re new to the world of Chinese herbs or have a background in herbal cooking, together, we’ll bridge the knowledge gap, demystify the complexities, and infuse your herbal learning and wellness journey with confidence and vitality.

I am here to guide you, hand in hand, as we navigate through the cultural, language, and philosophical barriers that may arise on this journey

Timeless Wisdom and a Guiding Light for Lifelong Health Journey

The beauty of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) lies in its timeless wisdom. While Western Medicine and other fields constantly change, TCM’s philosophical foundations remain steadfast and herbs that have been used for thousands of years. It is not a fleeting trend or a passing fad.

While we must continue to learn in order to deepen our understanding as our knowledge and experience grow, yet unlike other areas, TCM doesn’t require frequent financial investment for yearly updates. TCM is a precious philosophy of life that will endure for generations to come, and what you learn in this course will never deem outdated.

By building a strong foundation in TCM principles from the beginning, you will possess invaluable insights that can be applied throughout your lifetime. This knowledge will serve as a guiding light for a lifelong health journey.

'Love letters' from students

Here are heartfelt testimonials from my incredible students, sharing their experiences and thoughts on my teaching style and course content. These testimonials range from candid emails and messages within our private group to heartfelt “thank you” letters. It’s worth noting that while many of my students have no prior background in Chinese herbs, some are actually practicing TCM professionals. Traditional herbal cuisine is not typically taught in formal education in the West, making it even more special that they have placed their trust in me to support their journey. I feel truly honored to be a part of their learning and I learned tremendously from them too!

Nuria

(Spain)

I am lucky to practice what I love as a profession. Help people with TCM and physiotherapy, but felt a lack of something from my training. I feel that diet is a key piece in the prevention and treatment of any illnesses.

Since I was little I have been passionate about cooking and it was my desire to unite Diet and Medicine. When I traveled to China for an internship, I found out that it was possible and it is very common in China where people use herbs in their cooking. However, I didn’t find anyone who would teach me.

Nancy

(Netherlands)

I have been contemplating to do this workshop due to finance, finally I decided to do it and it is the best choice ever. Sometimes when your feeling is so strong, you got to do it.

I have learned so much from this course. Even though I have diploma in Chinese herbology, I find it difficult to use the
herbs, but thanks to this workshop, it makes it so much easier to comprehend.

Her courses are a must to do if you like to work on your health and you don’t want to study Chinese herbs for a living.

Alice

(Thailand)

I’ve always been interested in Chinese Medicine but have never had the time to study it and also everything seems quite complicated. So, a basic and practical course in English is just what I was looking for.

I would highly recommend the course if you’re interested in using food and Chinese Medicine principles for taking care of yourselves and your families and to prevent possible more serious health issues from happening in the future

Dear Shirley
I just want to say a big thank you for all your dedication, love, and hard work in creating this useful course. It has been a bridge to connect to my ancestral kitchen medicine. I look forward to exploring deeper food medicine from various East Asian regions. I feel you are my trusted guide as you thoroughly gather the information you share, and explain how to use the herbs safely. May you continue to share the love and tradition of Chinese food medicine.

Chrys

(Australia)

“I’m very glad to have come across Shirley’s Youtube channel Chinese Herbal Pantry & even happier when I found out she conducts online classes to share her extensive knowledge on TCM principles and herb usage within TCM world. Her course is well researched, even ‘correcting’ some common misperceptions around TCM & the delivery of the course made it a lot simpler to grasp TCM guidance and applying it in my daily life. I am now a lot more confident when using some of the common Asian herbs & gained sufficient knowledge to be able to read my conditions and mix & match things to suit my needs. Learning TCM & herbs with Shirley has been an enjoyable journey & I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about it in a fun and less daunting way!”.

Wenni

(Australia)

I’ve just completed Shirley’s Herbal Holistic Health Online Course, and I am also a member of her TCM Wellness Circle.

I can say with confidence that I am more sensitive to changes in my environment, more in tune with my feelings, and more aware of my own body’s signs and symptoms.

Let me share what I have learned so far, to relieve an onset of dry cough, I brew a sweet Asian pear tea blend.  Like magic, it works!  During hot summer months, heat rashes on my arms and legs make me miserable.  After drinking cooling teas and soups, as recommended in her course, the heat rashes did NOT show up on my arms, I had only a few red spots on my left leg.  Needless to say, I had the most comfortable summer this year.

Very soon I will be 82 years old.  If you are unsure about embarking on this adventure. Yes, I was skeptical too.  This course made me realize that we need to nourish our minds and bodies all the time.  It is a Lifelong process!

I feel grateful for having had the opportunity.

Supportive BONUSES to enhance your learning

Learning on your own can be challenging, especially when it comes to Chinese Medicine. That’s why I’ve included valuable bonuses to ensure your learning journey is engaging and long-lasting. Through Q&A sessions and discussions, you’ll have the opportunity to deepen your understanding. Additionally, to keep your passion alive beyond the course, I’ve prepared special bonuses that extend your learning experience. With these bonuses, your journey doesn’t end when the course does!

Learning Chinese medicine and herbs can be challenging when you’re studying on your own. It can feel lonely and difficult to navigate through the complexities. That’s why I have included TWO weekly Live Q&A sessions as a vital part of this course. (One session is US timezone friendly, the other is EU/Asia Pacific timezone friendly)

These interactive sessions will be recorded and made available as replay videos with timestamps. They not only provide you with the opportunity to ask questions, receive guidance directly from me, and engage in discussions with me and fellow students, but they also offer the flexibility to revisit the content at your convenience. Whether you want to rewatch the video to reinforce your understanding or if you are unable to attend a particular session, the replay videos ensure that you won’t miss out on any valuable insights. Together, we’ll create a supportive and dynamic learning environment where you can actively participate, grow, and thrive!

When you enroll in this course, you’ll receive LIFETIME ACCESS to all course materials, including videos, resources, and any FUTURE UPDATES I make to enhance the learning experience. As long as I continue teaching this course, you’ll have access to all the valuable content. This means you can revisit the material at your own pace, even long after completing the course. Additionally, any updates or new materials I release in the future will be automatically available to you on the exclusive student-only site. Rest assured, your learning journey will always be up-to-date and enriched.

In the unlikely event that the course is no longer taught, you will receive a 60-day notice and have the opportunity to download any or all of the course materials for your continued reference

One week before the start of the course, you’ll gain access to an exclusive community forum group that will remain active for 2 weeks after the course concludes. This private group provides a space for you to connect with fellow students, engage in discussions about the course content, share your herb and food pictures, and more. This is where the magic happens! As the moderator, I’ll be actively involved in the group, providing support, sharing tips, and answering questions.

After the 2-month period, you will then be transitioned to my membership forum, a larger community where you can continue to connect with like-minded individuals! (see next bonus)

After the 2-month Private Community Forum Group Support ends, you’ll seamlessly transition to my TCM Wellness Circle membership program. What’s even more exciting is that you’ll receive the higher tier, Ginseng membership, for TWO months (valued at US$60) absolutely FREE!

I firmly believe that learning is just the beginning, and real change happens through implementation. That’s why I provide an additional 2 months of support inside the membership program after the course. As a Ginseng member for that 2 months, you’ll have access to monthly Q&A sessions where you can ask me any lingering questions that may arise. Furthermore, the membership community forum will continue to be a valuable space for interaction and further inquiries.

Altogether, you’ll receive 4 months of ongoing inspiration and support (2 months in the private group and 2 months in my membership). I’m confident that this extended period of guidance will keep you motivated and empower you to deepen your understanding and apply the knowledge gained from the course.

Burning Questions?

When does the course start? When does the enrollment end?

The course will start on 22nd July, 2024. It is a SIX weeks course.

Enrollment ends on 16th July 2024.

I'm not free this time. When are you teaching again?

I can’t confirm the date when I will be teaching this course again. The last time I taught this course was one year ago! Having said that, I will aim to teach it every 6-8 months.

What if I buy the course and it's not for me?

No worries at all. However, please note that you must formally inform me via email (hello@chineseherbalpantry.com) by 29th July.

During this time, you will have 7 days to review the first module, attend the Live Q&A session, and join the community group. If you find that the course is not the right fit for you, you will receive a full refund without any questions asked. My priority is to ensure your satisfaction and happiness!

Please remember that the deadline for requesting a refund is 6th August. After this date, no refunds will be issued.

If you don’t mind, I would appreciate hearing your feedback on how I can improve the course if it is related to the course content. If it is simply a matter of not feeling right, I wish you all the very best, and we will stay connected through my social media accounts. I have many other free content available on YouTube and Instagram that you may enjoy! Take care!

The course seems to cover a lot. I feel overwhelmed. Are you sure I can do this?

It does cover quite a lot! However, it’s important to note that all topics will only be briefly introduced. I won’t delve too deeply into each subject as this is a beginner course.

The purpose of introducing these theories is to provide you with a well-rounded and systematic understanding of Traditional Chinese Medicine. As we progress, everything will start to make more sense to you.

When it comes to the herbal sections, please don’t worry about memorizing everything. The goal is to teach you how to find resources and read herb monographs effectively. So, when you need specific information, you’ll know where to find it and how to interpret it.

I want to assure you that I will make the course as simple and easy to understand as possible. Most importantly, throughout your journey, you’ll have me as your guide and mentor every step of the way. I’m here to support you and ensure you feel confident in your learning experience.

How much time will I need to commit to this course?

I understand that many of you have expressed concerns about finding enough time to learn and make the most out of the course. Let me assure you, I’ve designed it to be manageable and flexible.

Each week, you’ll receive an e-learning module with approximately 5-7 bite-sized lessons, ranging from 10 to 20 minutes of video learning. This means you can easily fit in some study time every day, whether it’s 10-20 minutes or dedicating 1.5 hours per week for more focused learning. Once a week, we’ll have live Q&A sessions lasting about 45-60 minutes. Don’t worry if you can’t make it live – you’ll receive a replay video afterward.

So, in total, you’ll need no more than 2.5 hours each week to delve into the course material. I’ve designed the course to be manageable for most of you, allowing you to easily balance it with your other commitments.

When I join, will I be getting immediate access to all the modules and lessons?

No. Course materials will be released weekly on Monday.

So, there is a focus for you each week and the goal is not to overwhelm you.

What do you mean by 'Lifetime access' to your materials?
When I say ‘Lifetime Access,’ it means that you will have ongoing access to all the course materials for as long as the course is available.

With ‘Lifetime Access,’ you can revisit and review the course materials at any time, allowing you to refresh your knowledge and deepen your understanding whenever you need to. You will have the ability to access and download the PDF workbook, ensuring that you always have a handy reference.

While you won’t be able to download the course videos, you will have unlimited streaming access to them within the course platform. This way, you can re-watch the videos as many times as you need to fully grasp the concepts and techniques presented.

Furthermore, as an added benefit, ‘Lifetime Access’ also includes ALL FUTURE UPDATES and improvements to the course. If I enhance the course content or introduce new materials, you will automatically receive these updates, ensuring that you stay up-to-date with the latest information.

It’s my commitment to providing continuous support and resources to help you on your learning journey.

I want to assure you that your access to the course is secure. In the unlikely event that I decide to terminate the course, I will provide a 60-day notice period. During this time, you will have the opportunity to download all the course videos for your personal reference, ensuring that you have permanent access to the valuable content you’ve invested in.

I hope you would feel confident knowing that your access to the course is protected
What if I can't attend the Live Q&A sessions or the time for live Q&A doesn't suit me?
I understand that scheduling can be challenging, especially when students are located in different time zones. To accommodate everyone’s availability, I will send out a survey to gather preferences and determine the most suitable time for the Live Q&A sessions. While it may not be possible to find a time that works perfectly for everyone, we will do our best to find a time that suits the majority of students.

If you find yourself unable to attend a Live Q&A session due to other commitments or scheduling conflicts, there’s no need to worry. Prior to the session, I will collect questions from all students, including those who cannot attend live. You can submit your questions in advance, and I will make sure to address them during the session. Rest assured that every question is valuable, and I am committed to providing full support to all students.

Furthermore, all Live Q&A sessions will be recorded, and replay videos will be made available to all students a few days later. This way, even if you are unable to attend the live session, you will have the opportunity to watch the replay at your convenience. You won’t miss out on any valuable information or insights shared during the Q&A. Your questions will be answered, and you will have the flexibility to review the sessions at a time that works best for you. .
I have a health condition. Does this course teach me how to treat it?
NO.

This course is not intended to teach you how to treat specific health issues. Its focus is on providing knowledge and guidance for using herbs at home to support general well-being and self-care ONLY.

It is important to note that treating specific health conditions requires a thorough assessment and personalized treatment plan, which can only be provided through one-on-one consultations. Due to this reason, during this course, I am unable to address personal health conditions or provide individualized treatment advice.

It is important to understand that self-diagnosis and self-treatment can be ineffective and potentially harmful. If you have a health condition, it is always recommended to consult with a healthcare professional or a licensed Chinese Medicine practitioner who can assess your specific needs and provide personalized care through a thorough one-to-one assessment. They will be able to offer you the most appropriate treatment options and ensure your safety and well-being.
Will I become a herbalist from this course?
NO, attending this course will not make you a herbalist.

The purpose of this course is to provide you with an understanding of Chinese herbs and how to incorporate them into your cooking for everyday wellness.

It is NOT intended to give you the knowledge or qualifications to prescribe Chinese herbs to others, such as your friends or family members. The focus is on self-care and personal well-being through herbal food preparation.
Will I receive a certificate or CPD for this course?
No.

This course is designed for general learning and does not offer a certificate or Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.
Can I get access to you after the course and the complementary Ginseng membership in TCM Wellness Circle ends?
During the course and in the community forum, as well as the additional two months of Ginseng membership in TCM Wellness Circle, I will provide you with my full support. However, after the course and complementary membership period end, I will no longer be available to answer questions directly.

Please make the most of the course and take this opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

But here’s some good news! After the course and complementary membership period, I highly encourage you to join the TCM Wellness Circle. Inside the membership, you’ll continue to receive ongoing support and have easy access to me. It’s a fantastic community where you can connect with like-minded individuals, access valuable resources, and receive guidance on your Chinese Medicine journey.

So, while the direct support from the course may end, the TCM Wellness Circle membership offers a wonderful opportunity to further enhance your learning and receive continued support from me and the community. I look forward to welcoming you to the membership!
Shirley Chong Chinese Herbal Pantry

Hi, if we haven't met yet
I'm Shirley, TCM Practitioner and (Western Medicine) Pharmacist from Australia.

TCM has been a part of my life since I was very young, as my father, a Traditional Chinese doctor in Malaysia for 50 years, instilled in me the wisdom and practices of this ancient healing system. Growing up in a family of TCM practitioners and food lovers, I had the privilege of observing my father consult with patients and dispense herbs in his clinic. I was his daughter and apprentice.

Some days, we would wake up early before work and drive far away to wait in a long line just to eat one specialty. It was natural for us to bring the two together, and I grew up eating and drinking herbal soup and tea. My mother, an excellent cook, would seamlessly incorporate herbs from my father’s dispensary into her culinary creations in the kitchen located right behind his clinic. My father’s herbal dispensary is my mother’s herbal pantry! This unique environment allowed me to witness the synergy between TCM and food in our daily lives.

I feel extremely fortunate to be able to learn this wonderful holistic health system from both my father, and more formally when I gained my Master’s degree in Chinese Medicine at RMIT University in Australia, and trained at TCM hospitals in China for 3 years. It was my father’s belief in the complementary nature of conventional and traditional medicine that shaped my path and made me who I am today.

From a young age, I aspired to be a world citizen, immersing myself in different cultures and expanding my TCM training. Thanks to my husband’s job, we have been blessed with the opportunity to reside in diverse countries, including Malaysia, Australia, Canada, China, the USA, and now the UK. These enriching experiences have not only deepened my understanding of local cultures and cuisine, but also allowed me to connect with people from various backgrounds easily. I have witnessed firsthand how individuals from different parts of the world embrace Chinese Medicine and incorporate it into their lives. These experiences have truly shaped my global perspective on TCM, which I am thirlled to share with you

Why Learn From Me?

With my unique background and training, deep roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine, multilingual skills and multicultural experience, you’ll gain a well-rounded learning experience that goes beyond textbooks and charts

Why Learn Chinese Herbs and Traditional Food?

With over 20 years of clinical experience in pharmacy and 10 years in Chinese Medicine, I have had the privilege of walking between two medical systems. This unique perspective has allowed me to recognize the benefits and limitations of both modern and traditional medicine.

Throughout my own path, I have come to realize the importance of self-care and the practice of TCM ‘health-nurturing’ (‘Yang Sheng’), which is one of the missing elements in achieving true holistic well-being.

An essential aspect of Yang Sheng is Chinese medicine diet/nutrition, with its hallmark being the use of food as medicine. It is a highly developed system that harnesses the intrinsic properties of various foods to optimize the well-being of each person amidst shifting environments, and weather conditions in modern lifestyle, empowering the body’s own innate abilities for health, healing, and revitalization. Many Chinese herbs are everyday food in Asian countries, such as Jujube, Chinese Yam, Lily Bulbs, and more.

Preserving an Ancient Wisdom: Sowing Seeds for Tomorrow

While some aspects of Chinese medicine traditions have found their place in Western lifestyles, such as Taichi, acupuncture, and even facial gua sha, there are still undiscovered treasures waiting to be explored.

The incredible potential of Chinese herbs and traditional foods to promote well-being through everyday cooking remains largely unheard of or inaccessible to many in the West.

Even in the East, where this knowledge has been passed down through generations, it saddens me to witness the wisdom of cooking with herbs getting lost amid modern lifestyles, heavy reliance on nutrition and pharmaceutical drugs, and the impact of immigration that can separate older generations from the younger ones.
I believe in the profound importance of preserving and sharing this ancient wisdom, which holds such power and relevance for everyone, transcending cultural backgrounds. The wisdom of Chinese herbs and traditional foods is a treasure awaiting anyone who is eager to explore and learn.

In our fast-paced world, taking the time to learn and preserve it is not only beneficial for our own well-being but also a meaningful way to connect with ancient wisdom. As you discover the joys of incorporating Chinese herbs into your everyday meals, you create a legacy of flavorful and nourishing traditions, ready to be passed down to future generations.

No matter where you are on your journey to discovering the wonders of the Chinese Medicine diet and optimum wellness, I’ll be there to support you every step of the way.
