The Year of the Fire Horse is here.
And so is the wisest way to begin it.
On February 4th, the ancient Chinese calendar marks Li Chun (立春)🌸 — the true Beginning of Spring. Not January 1st. Not a resolution. A seasonal shift that has guided health and nourishment for thousands of years.
This is when we prepare the soil before we plant the seeds🌱.
And for the first time in a while, I’m opening the doors to TCM Wellness Circle — so you can walk through this entire year of seasonal wisdom, together with me.
🌱 Doors open now! Founder spots are very limited!
You care about your health.
You're not looking for another fad.
But have you ever noticed…
🍂 Autumn
Your skin feels dry. Your throat too.
A dry cough shows up — not a proper cold, just the dryness irritating your throat.
❄️ Winter
You catch one cold after another.
Or you feel so tired and heavy, getting through the day takes real effort. A quiet sadness settles in that you can’t quite explain.
🌱 Spring
You find yourself snapping at people.
Irritable for no reason. Or it’s harder to fall asleep — even when you’re exhausted.
☀️ Summer
Everything feels too much.
And you just can’t seem to cool down, no matter what you do.
You've probably brushed these off.
Blamed stress. Blamed the weather.
Blamed yourself.
Some of these, you might think — well, that’s just how it is. Everyone feels tired and down in winter, right? Once the sun comes back, it’ll pass.
And some of them… you might not have even noticed at all — until someone pointed it out. The spring irritability, the trouble sleeping. You just thought you were stressed.
What if your body has actually been responding to the seasons this whole time?
Here's something most people don't realise
You’ve probably heard “seasonal eating.” Most people picture buying strawberries in summer, pumpkin in autumn. Eating what’s in season at the market.
That’s part of it. But in Traditional Chinese Medicine, seasonal eating goes much deeper.
Every food has an energetic profile — and that profile either supports your body during a particular season… or works against it. Eating the wrong foods at the wrong time doesn’t just miss an opportunity. It can quietly drain you.
That’s why the tips you’ve tried here and there never quite stuck. It wasn’t that you were doing it wrong. It’s that no one explained the layer underneath.
Now learning about energetic profiles might sound complicated. Like you'd need to study TCM for years to get it right.
But this might feel brand new
— and it's actually not.
Think about what you already do without even thinking:
❄️ Winter comes → you reach for a thicker blanket
☀️ Summer arrives → you swap to lighter clothes
🍲 It’s cold outside → your body craves a warm bowl of stew
💧 It’s scorching → a glass of cold water feels exactly right
You already move with the seasons.
You just do it instinctively — without connecting it to your health.
All we're doing is adding one more layer.
A small, intentional shift in what you eat and how you care for yourself — matched to where you are in the natural cycle. That’s it.
Not a big life overhaul. Not years of study. Just one gentle layer, every two weeks, guided by someone who can show you exactly how.
What if it felt this simple instead?
Every 15 days, something in nature shifts — and you shift gently with it.
Not a big change. A small one. A recipe to try. A self-care tip that takes 10 minutes.
A clear reason why this moment in the year matters for your body.
You're Not Doing This Alone.
A community of real people around the world, on the same journey. Sharing what they’re cooking. Asking questions. Celebrating small wins together.
And you have me — a practitioner with 20+ years experience — guiding you through it all.
The seasons stop feeling like something that happens to you
— and start feeling like something you move with
When you’re unsure about something, you don’t spend an hour searching online. You ask me directly — and you get a trustworthy answer. Grounded in real TCM and pharmacy knowledge. Not random internet opinions.
Over the course of a full year, something quiet but meaningful shifts.
Your body starts to feel more in rhythm.
This isn’t a dramatic overnight transformation.
It’s a gentle, sustainable realignment
— the way TCM has always worked.
Why right now is the perfect time to begin
On February 4th, something happened that most people missed.
The ancient Chinese calendar marked Lichun (立春) — the Beginning of Spring. Not January 1st. Not a resolution. The actual start of the TCM year.
This is the first of the 24 Solar Terms — the system Traditional Chinese Medicine has used for thousands of years to understand how nature’s energy shifts throughout the year.
Think of it this way:
The 4 Seasons are like a map. Useful, but broad.
The 24 Solar Terms are like GPS. Precise. Specific.
Telling you exactly where you are and what your body needs right now.

Instead of four big seasonal switches (winter → spring → summer → autumn), the 24 Solar Terms break the year into mini-seasons that shift every 15 days.
Each one brings subtle changes in temperature, daylight, and energy — and your body responds to all of it, whether you’re aware of it or not.
Ancient farmers watched for these shifts because their survival depended on it. What worked for crops works for us.
While there are many schools, and many skilled practitioners, in Traditional Chinese Medicine, there isn’t much information designed to help regular people incorporate these herbs and foods into their everyday lives and according to seasonal transitions.
Even fully qualified TCM practitioners trained in the uses of powdered herbs come to me to learn more about cooking with raw herbs — it just isn’t taught!

Some of us are lucky enough to have grown up with grandparents and parents who knew to bring us Tong Sui (sweet soup) with lotus seeds and lily bulbs when we had trouble sleeping. So much of Chinese and Asian cooking is already grounded in this ancient wisdom, we use it almost without thinking. Like chicken noodle soup when you’re sick in the West, we have our go-to comforts and cures.
But unless each generation takes the time to learn the specific teachings of what works, why it works, and how — the wisdom and traditions can be lost to time.
Maybe you don’t have that cultural background or a family who familiarized you with these ingredients, but you’re curious about alternative health, wellness and nutrition practices.
TCM has so much to offer in the way of preventative care.
Introducing
TCM Wellness Circle

I created this year-long membership that teaches you to live in rhythm with the 24 Solar Terms — the ancient Chinese system that breaks the year into mini-seasons, each lasting just 15 days.
This isn't a course you finish and move on from. It's an ongoing practice. A gentle rhythm. A way of living that unfolds over a full year. And it starts right here, right now — at the very beginning of the TCM year.
Every two weeks, you receive:

Seasonal guidance matched to the current solar term — what to eat, how to rest, why this moment matters for your body

Simple recipes you can actually make (2-3 per solar term, using ingredients you can find)

Community — real people around the world on the same journey, sharing what they’re cooking and learning together

Direct access to me — I’m in the community answering questions, and Ginseng members get monthly live calls

Body type AI chatbot — learn your primary TCM body type with this chatbot, trained on my materials, no hallucinations! So you get trusworth answers anytime. If unsure, you can ask me in the forum!
And, as always, the information provided will be communicated in ways anyone can understand. No previous TCM experience required. I will explain all of the jargon, vocabulary, and cultural aspects that can make learning TCM so hard for new learners.

The Goji is perfect for you if:
You prefer self-paced learning and enjoy exploring content in your own time. You're comfortable reading through materials, trying recipes, and figuring things out independently. The community is there when you want to share or ask a question, but you don't need regular check-ins or live sessions to stay on track. You learn best by doing — at your own rhythm..

The Ginseng is perfect for you if:
You thrive with live support and accountability. You want the option to ask me questions directly in a monthly call — not just through written posts. You like having interactive tools (flashcards, quizzes, mind maps) to help you retain what you learn. And you appreciate having access to years of past Q&A recordings so you can search for answers that have already been discussed. You learn best when there's structure, community interaction, and a practitioner actively guiding you.
A Sneak Peek of My Herbal Profile
All the Information You Need in One Profile. No More Endless Searches!
Let me share with you one of the proudest herbal profile I created – Chinese date. As you can see below, you’ll learn its various names, property, TCM functions, dosage, precautions, and the different types available. There are pictures of all three common types, even the fresh jujubes. Notably, I’ve included audio files for the pronunciation of Mandarin and Cantonese names for three different types of Chinese dates. These audio guides are perfect for those who wish to learn the pronunciation or communicate effectively with family, friends, or herbal store assistants. Simply play the audio for seamless communication!

Next, you’ll see a section “How to use it in the kitchen” – where I provide examples of pairing jujube with other herbs for herbal tea, soup, desserts, snacks, and more. I also gave you the videos as example how I incorporated them in my recipes.

I consistently update these profiles based on insights from my courses, as well as questions from my students and members. This ensures you always have the latest information, interesting facts, and emerging trends right at your fingertips. I hope this gives you a glimpse of the invaluable content you can access in my herbal profiles – something you won’t find anywhere else!
Hi, if we haven't met yet
I'm Shirley, TCM Practitioner and (Western Medicine) Pharmacist in Australia.

I have been working with herbs in their raw, dried and powdered states since I was very young — my father has been a Traditional Chinese doctor in Malaysia for 50 years. We are a family of TCM practitioners, and a family of foodies. I grew up in my father’s clinic, observing him consult with patients and helping to dispense herbs. I was my father’s daughter and apprentice.
Some days, we would wake up early before work and drive far away to wait in a long line just to eat one specialty. It was natural for us to bring the two together, and I grew up eating and drinking herbal soup and tea. My father’s herbal dispensary is my mother’s herbal pantry.
I feel extremely fortunate to be able to learn this wonderful holistic health system from both my father, and more formally when I gained my Master’s degree in Chinese Medicine at RMIT University in Australia, and trained at TCM hospitals in China for 3 years. I have over 20 years of clinical experience in pharmacy and 10 years in Chinese Medicine.
I am passionate about making Traditional Chinese Medicine accessible to everyone who wishes to learn, because I recognize there are many barriers to entry, like…
Cultural background
Language and jargon
Whether you speak Cantonese, Mandarin or English (or all three), there’s not just a language barrier, there’s a jargon barrier. I will do my best to explain all of the words and terms so they are accessible to you. You’ll be able to walk into a Chinese herbal store and know what to buy (and how to ask for it).
There are many factors when deciding which herb is best to help the individual
A different way of looking at the body
My role is to translate the meaning of 24 solar terms, herbs and foods and how to use them across cultures, languages, and across several centuries.
I am excited to bring this membership to you as a safe space where you can learn together, discuss with each other, and get support as you try new things and put your knowledge into daily practice.
As a member of any level, you'll be able to
Experience drinking herbal teas and soups to feel better.
Learn a new (ancient) way to live with the rhythm of the universe.
Know what to cook, with a database you can trust
Shop confidently for the herbs you need, in the forms you need them, using the database, photos, descriptions and audio file.
Understand herbs enough to incorporate them into your kitchen and daily life.
Expand your knowledge of TCM, in ways not often taught in schools. And be able to communicate with your herbalist.
Let’s make sure this is a fit for what you need:
- You want to learn the practice of Yang Sheng (TCM self care) and how to use herbs at home for holistic health.
- You have some background in TCM already, through your parents or grandparents, maybe you share the culture
- You’re relatively new to TCM, but you’ve always been curious about it, and would love someone able to make it more user-friendly, define some of the jargon, and translate the cultural and philosophical aspects that can make self-study so confusing
This group program is for all levels, from “I don’t know my yin yang”, to “I grew up around it,” to “I cook herbal soups daily” . Our group is small enough to accommodate questions from all levels of experience.
However, it is NOT the right fit for you
- If you have a specific health condition and are looking to learn how to use herbs to treat it and wish to seek specific personal advice for treating this health condition. Unfortunately, this membership is not the right fit for you. This membership is for general wellbeing only. Please see your local family doctor and qualified Chinese Medicine practitioner for proper and personalised care for your health conditions.
- If you practise TCM professionally and wish to gain special training or wish to discuss clinical cases. Unfortunately, I feel I am not ready yet and it is also not the right forum. It would be too much information for other members who don’t have TCM training. I do wish to create a ‘Pro Member’ level in the future for TCM practitioners where we could come together to discuss and exchange experiences. So, please stay tuned for future launches for this ‘Pro’ Level but not this first round! You are very welcome to join the Goji or Ginseng members for general discussion. However, I won't answer clinical questions. Thanks for your understanding!
Here's what my awesome students and members are saying about my teaching style and the contents that I share. You could also see what our members share in our community forum and how they feel better after starting to learn and incorporating Chinese herbs in their cooking.

Sorry, I have to crossed off the ingredients we used. This is because those ingredients were unique for her case. During our Q&A, she told me what she had tried before, and the symptoms experienced. Although I don’t give personal health advice, for minor symptoms such as mild cough, I sometime do share simple recipes. And I was so happy to hear in her son’s case this recipe worked well.

Burning Questions
My online course is a very structured foundation course designed to teach you how to use Chinese herbs at home for better health and self-care in 6 weeks. It’s an intense crash-course on the principles of TCM and how to apply them in your own kitchen. There’s a mix of videos, audios, PDFs and quizzes to allow you to study at your own pace. At the same time, I will hold your hands and guide you every step of the way during the 6 weeks period. That’s the WEEKLY Q&A session for in the online course.
For the membership, it is more self-learning with the support of herbal/food profiles and the community. The materials inside the membership are not structured as I assume you have some basic understanding of TCM or are happy to read them yourself. For example, there are no foundational studies, such as the Yin and Yang, 5 elements, TCM organ systems etc
If you join the Ginseng level, there are the MONTHLY Live Q&A session where you can ask me questions without needing to waste time searching for answers.
I recommend taking the course if you are able to, either before or after joining the membership. However, it is not a requirement for this membership
The goal of the database is not just to dump you with hundreds of herbs! It is designed to help you learn too. When you join the membership, you’ll start with about 10-15 most commonly seen herbs, I will release TWO herbs or food profiles every month. So, you can learn and try one new herb every couple week. Or you can let them sit there, and use them as reference later whenever you need to find more information about a herb or food.
With the release of two herbs each month, you can go to the community to share and discuss what you learn and how you use these herbs. So, you will never feel information-overwhelmed.
There are many databases online but how often do you go there to learn? With the above format, I hope somehow it will build a habit for you to have the desire to learn one or two herbs each month. Don’t forget also use that month to try out the herbs, cook with them and see if you like them or feel any difference after incorporating them in your everyday life. Of course, you don’t have to memorise them but at least you get some basic understanding of one herb or two per month.
If you sign up for the annual plan, you will be so proud that you have learned and mastered about 24 herbs/foods in 12 months! As the years progress, you will keep building on your knowledge and the database will become larger and larger.
Instead of having new members continuously, I prefer to build a more close-knitted community for those who already joined before accepting new members.
This is why you can only join my membership from 21st May to 12th June and doors won’t be opened again in 6 months.
I want to use 6 months to create a friendly and caring space for the members. It takes time for people to feel safe to comment, ask questions, connect with others, and share recipes and experiences. I also need the time to get to know the members and their needs, so that I can improve their experiences inside the membership.
Since the doors only open for a short time, I put my 100% to welcome new members all at once, and after that, we will focus our energy to learn and support each other as a community. You will feel supported and belong to this community!
Yes, you can unsubscribe anytime, even if you sign up for the annual plan. All you need to do is to email us at hello@chineseherbalpantry.com with the title ‘Unsubscribe Membership’. In your email, please tell us your full name and email address you use to sign up. We will stop the recurring payment on your credit card at the next billing, and remove you from our membership.
If you sign up with the annual plan, please do the same as above. We will stop the recurring payment on your credit card at the next billing too. On top of that, we will refund you the remaining months on your annual plan. However, PLEASE NOTE THAT, the annual plan has special discounts. Therefore, for the months prior to the unsubscription, they will be charged at the ‘Monthly plan’ fees.
For example, you signed up the Goji level annual plan in March, and you paid $92 for it. However, you decided to unsubscribe in August. Five months had passed. Therefore, that would be $9 (monthly fee) x 5 months = $45. You would be refunded ($92- $45 =) $47
Hope the above makes sense! Please don’t hesitate to contact us anytime for clarification.
We may have members from different time zones. I will send out a survey to see what would be the best time for everyone. We will try our best to find a time that suits most of you. We will then decide on two best times and run the sessions alternatively. For example, if the survey shows Sunday 11am AEST and Wednesday 9pm AEST are best for most members. Then one month the Q&A will be on Sunday 11am AEST, and then the next month will be on Wednesday 9pm AEST.
If the time doesn’t work for you and you can’t attend, please don’t worry. As all questions must be submitted prior to the session, you can submit yours, I will answer them during the session. All Live Q&A will be recorded and replay videos will be posted in the membership site, so you get to watch the video in your own time.
I am sorry to hear to you can’t join the membership this time.
The membership will be opened again end of 2022 or early 2023.
Please join the waitlist for this membership via this link https://chineseherbalpantry.com/subscribe
So you will be the first to hear when I launch the membership again!
I am looking forward to meet you inside the membership next time. Thank you for your interest.
The community is a safe and friendly space and forum for all the members to come together to share information, share pictures of your herbal dishes/soups/tea, to support and inspire each other.
I will be there actively to moderate the discussion and to answer questions if necessary. However, please note that no personal health advice will be given. Please DON’T disclose your private health information in the forum. I will only answer general questions.
We are sorry to hear you are struggling with the health conditions. Sorry that this membership is mostly to help to support your general wellbeing and we don’t recommend to join the membership in hope to find herbs or recipes to treat medical conditions. For management and treatment of any medical conditions, please seek help from your local qualified medical doctors for your personalised care.We will not provide any recommendations of herbs or recipes to treat any health conditions. It is at your own risks and we are not liable if you rely on any information provided by the membership without consulting your doctors or healthcare providers for your health conditions.
Please note that the Live Q&A session and the community forum are where general herbal and wellness topics are discussed. However, they are not the right places to seek any advice for your personal health condition. Please never disclose or post your personal and private health information during the Live Q&A sessions and in the community forum. I will NOT give any personal health advice or give a Chinese Medicine diagnosis in the membership.
You SHOULD and MUST consult a registered/licensed physician or appropriately- trained healthcare providers in your community in all matters relating to your health. Joining this membership DOESN’T establish a physician-patient relationship, to replace the services of a trained physician or health care professional, or otherwise to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
I am sorry, this membership is intended for lay people and general learning. It is not developed for TCM professionals. Clinical discussion will be too overwhelming for other members who don’t have TCM training.
I do wish to create a ‘Pro Member’ level in the future for TCM practitioners where we could come together to discuss and exchange experiences. So, please stay tuned for future launches for this ‘Pro’ Level but not this first round!.
You are very welcome to join the Goji or Ginseng members and we can discuss more general questions that are also relevant to other members. However, I won’t answer clinical questions. Thanks for your understanding!
No.
There will be no certificate or CPD points (Continuing Professional Development points) issued for this course as it is only intended for general learning.
